Breda: Vincent's grandfather, also called Vincent van Gogh, who came from an art-loving family in The Hague was a preacher at the 'Grote Kerk' and the Royal Military Academy. Vincent van Gogh the preacher lived with his family first in the Visserstraat and later in the Reigerstraat. Son Theo became a minister in Zundert in 1849 where grandson Vincent was born in 1853. The preacher from Breda went there regularly by horse-drawn carriage to preach. Little is known of the relationship between Vincent and his grandfather. Vincent sketched him on one occasion from a photograph. A short fragment from a letter to Theo shows that Vincent found him to be a cold and unpleasant person.
