The Potato Eaters

Van Gogh considered the group portrayal in 'The Potato Eaters' to be his first successful masterpiece. His fascination for everyday people, together with his study of light, color and perspective during his period in Nuenen, are combined in this painting.

Mistake or Masterpiece?

Vincent was especially pleased with his successful approach to the color of the "dusty, unplayed potatoes": lightness that is still dark. This autumn the painting will be the main feature of "The Potato Eaters: Mistake or Masterpiece?" exhibition in the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. Special attention will be given to an additional program in Nuenen, where this painting was produced.

The Roosdonck Windmill

Van Gogh Brabant, Van Gogh Village Nuenen and GLOW are paying a colorful tribute to Vincent's masterpiece with this light show installation. From his darker works in Brabant to the explosion of light in his French period, this light installation brings both stories together. The sunflowers will be positioned next to the Roosdonck Windmill, a Van Gogh Monument looking out over the house where the family De Groot's farmhouse once stood. The family modelled for this famous masterpiece.

Colourful tribute

'Sunflowers for Van Gogh' is a combined project by the light artists Hugo Vrijdag from Eindhoven and Gu Yeliang from Nanjing. The light installation was the public favorite during GLOW 2019. The installation can be experienced every evening during GLOW 2021.

Vincent's LightLab

Work will start this year on a major extension to the Vincentre Museum in Nuenen. Vincent's Lightlab' is being developed as an addition to the existing exhibition featuring Van Gogh's period in Nuenen. This will be an interactive experience featuring the properties of light, based on Vincent van Gogh's quest for light and perspective. Vincent's Lightlab is being developed by Tinker Imagineers on behalf of Van Gogh Brabant with its partner ASML.
