Etten-Leur: After various relationships, Vincent, spurred on by his brother Theo, decided to become an artist and returned to his childhood home in Etten. He made a drawing of the rectory that must have stood roughly here. Vincent worked and slept in the annex next to the house. He studied mostly on drawing manuals and live model. And he regularly worked outdoors. As always, he wrote to Theo about the reading and art that interested him. In Etten he began to write about his progress as an artist, sometimes depicting with a sketch what he was working on at the time.
