In Eindhoven, artist Julien Crevaels drew inspiration from the rural surroundings where van Gogh lived and painted. The artwork can be seen in a tunnel that is the underpass of one of the old roads between Nuenen and Eindhoven where Van Gogh often walked as he moved from his parental home to the train station. "The starting point for the mural are two photographs taken near the railroad tunnel. The photos show the typical landscape that van Gogh also depicted in his paintings; pollard willows, farms and meadows. Through the use of colors, there is a clearly visible reference to his work. The black outline of each surface makes the mural look like a large stained-glass window," Crevaels says. The transition from one area to another makes the colors in the tunnel come alive and appeal to the imagination. Stand still, look and imagine yourself in a painting by Van Gogh.
This mural in Eindhoven is a collaboration between Vlakwerk, Dynamo, Zuidlijn, Van Gogh Brabant and Gemeente Eindhoven.
