In 1862/63, at the suggestion of Vincent van Gogh's father, the Dutch Reformed Congregation of Zundert purchased an old cottage next to the Protestant church and refurbished it into a sexton's residence. Now it is a guest studio for artists participating in the residency program of the Van GoghHuis. In front of this house is a pear tree.
Van Gogh and the pear tree
Pear trees, with their graceful blossoms and rich fruit, they were a symbol of fertility and growth for Van Gogh. He captured flowering pear trees in his work, emphasizing the changing of the seasons and the natural cycle of growth and decay.
