Major maintenance of mill De Roosdonck
Week 22
The blades were replaced in early June, during a morning with calm weather and relatively little wind.
It was beautiful to see, impressive too. The blades of the windmill, weighing almost 2,000 kg, were hoisted up and inserted into the upper shaft from above and reattached. The great thing is also that both a very large crane was used, and human strength to get the blades just right in the shaft. Now the blades are being finished. Later this month, the blades will start turning again!
week 20
The blades: a week later.
They are assembled on the ground, finished, numbered, and partially disassembled again for assembly. In late May, the blades, attached to the mill, are reassembled into the complete set of four blades. Model construction, at large and at high altitude.
On the ground, the blades look something like a boat. The techniques of the woodwork and sails, and how it moves and works in the wind, is similar to that of sailboats.
week 19
Major maintenance is currently being performed on the sails. The sails are attached to the upper shaft of the mill.
From the blades, the front hem and also the trellis have been removed, the latter, just by hand saw. The blades are expected to be restored by the end of May.
During maintenance, the mill's store will be open as usual on Saturdays.
