Queen Máxima opened our museum
Crowning the work
On Tuesday, May 16, Her Majesty Queen Máxima opened our renovated museum at the official opening.
It is the crowning achievement of the team of 200 volunteers, working with tireless commitment to preserve Vincent's heritage in Nuenen.
The official opening of our museum was performed by Queen Máxima and chairman Jan Kees Lemkes of Van Gogh Village Nuenen, in the presence of Queen's Commissioner Mrs. Adema of North Brabant and Mayor Houben of Nuenen.
Prior to the opening ceremony, there was a program with participation by Willem van Gogh on behalf of the Van Gogh family, Lucas van Grinsven on behalf of ASML, chairmen Jan Kees Lemkes and Edzo Doeve of Van Gogh Village Nuenen and the Van Gogh Sites Foundation, respectively.
In order to emphasize the connection between art, culture and technology, Anna Grimbrere was chosen as presenter. The program was artistically completed by theater company De Stilte from Breda in collaboration with saxophone quartet Artvark.
Of course, the Queen then went to see the museum, where she spoke with many involved not only volunteers, but also the construction team from Banbouw and representatives from ASML.
In Vincents Lichtlab, our Queen herself, led by three Nuenen children, discovered the effect of light and color.
The Queen's visit ended with a group photo with the volunteers. This was taken with humor.
Art history and education
Queen Máxima's visit is in recognition of the tireless efforts of our team of 200 volunteers to preserve Vincent's heritage in Nuenen.
Thanks to the collaboration with ASML and Van Gogh Sites Foundation, we can introduce young generations to the workings of art and the technology of light at Vincents Lichtlab.
Thus, in addition to an art historical, the museum also has educational value, and we like to show that.
