Museum Vincentre is pleased with the acquisition of the painting 'Man near a kitchen garden in a Brabant village' by Dimmen Gestel. This work has been added to the permanent exhibition on 'Friends of Vincent'.
Dimmen Gestel (1862 -1945) was one of Vincent's painting friends in his Nuenen days and also the only one of that company to have received professional artist training. At the Eindhoven print shop of Gestel & Zn, Vincent van Gogh sees some of Dimmen Gestel's paintings, which he greatly appreciates. Thus Dimmen becomes Vincent's friend and also his "pupil," and in this watercolor we see a subject that fits the peasant theme of Vincent van Gogh in his Nuenen time.
Museum Vincentre has a permanent exhibition on the Friends of Vincent. Two other paintings by Dimmen Gestel are already on display here. This watercolor "Man near a Kitchen Garden in a Brabant Village" is now included in the permanent exhibition.
Through quick action by Kunsthandel Art Dumay, The Friends of Vincent van Gogh & Nuenen and the management of Museum Vincentre, this work is now on display in our museum. Kunsthandel Art Dumay cleaned the watercolor and performed a minor restoration. The work has received a new frame fitted with special museum glass.
Once the museum reopens its doors for exhibition, the beautiful acquisition can be admired!
