On July 2, high-tech company ASML, Van Gogh Brabant and Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam in Eindhoven signed a cooperation agreement. The parties will enter into a long-term collaboration to preserve Vincent van Gogh's legacy.
"Vincent van Gogh was a Brabander, a rebel and an innovator. Light inspired him and it is central to his work, as it is to ours," said Peter Wennink, President & CEO of ASML. "This collaboration gives us the opportunity to help connect, preserve and leverage the heritage of Van Gogh in Amsterdam and Brabant to share our knowledge with a wide audience. "
Vincent's light lab
Vincent van Gogh painted his first masterpiece in Nuenen in 1885: The Potato Eaters. It was the result of an intensive search for perspective and light that characterized his Brabant period. This collaboration will contribute to the realization of the planned expansion of the museum in Nuenen where Vincent's story will be told. In addition, on the initiative of ASML, Vincent's Lightlab will be realized at the expansion of Museum Vincentre. Here visitors of all ages will discover what light is, how important it is in the world around us and how Van Gogh experimented with it in his paintings. The realization of the expansion of the museum and the opening of Vincent's Lightlab are planned for early 2021.
Frank van den Eijnden, director Van Gogh Brabant / Van Gogh Sites Foundation: "I am proud of this collaboration with ASML. It confirms the relevance of Vincent van Gogh as an inspiration and innovator and shows what Brabant excels at: craftsmanship, collaboration and innovation. Thanks to the expertise and strength of ASML, we can take the legacy of Vincent Van Gogh into the future."
