Becoming Vincent: from origin to mastery
The renewed permanent exhibition at the Van Gogh Village Museum tells the story of Vincent van Gogh's development in Nuenen, from his studies and sketches, to his masterpiece The Potato Eaters. Van Gogh Village Nuenen works closely with the other Van Gogh sites in North Brabant that are also being renewed. In Zundert the focus is on Vincent's origins and inspiration and in Etten-Leur the focus is on the painter's passion. The three locations together thus tell the unique story of Vincent van Gogh's genesis in Brabant under the title Becoming Vincent. In addition to the permanent exhibition, Van Gogh Village Museum also hosts temporary exhibitions.
Design and architecture
Well-known parties from the museum world were brought in to furnish the Van Gogh Village Museum. Tinker Imagineers designed the exhibitions and Bruns from Bergeijk produced the exhibition materials. The museum's new building was designed by diederendirrix of Eindhoven. This renowned architectural firm designed a contemporary long-roofed farmhouse in reference to a farm that stood here in the Vincent century era. The result is a unique building with large front windows that reference picture frames and a facade completely clad in ceramic tile tiles. The interior incorporates regional poplar wood. Design firm Van Eijk & Van der Lubbe designed the central reception area.
Vincents Lichtlab
New to the museum is Vincents Lichtlab, realized in collaboration with ASML and Van Gogh Brabant . The Light Lab targets younger generations with a combination of technology, art and creativity. They discover the painter's idiosyncratic, inquisitive attitude and perseverance and can discover for themselves the effects of color and light in the Light Lab.
Realization Van Gogh Village Museum
The museum has been realized thanks to the financial and substantive contributions of many regional parties and companies. Thanks to the efforts of the Province of North Brabant, Municipality of Nuenen and contributions from Brabant-C, Mondriaan Fund, ASML, Brainport Regiodeal and BPD Cultuurfonds and the certificate holders of Van Gogh Sites N.V., the Netherlands has a cultural attraction of international stature.
