Talent track for 10-14 year olds launched: The New Vincent 2024
Next March 12, four locations in Brabant will kick off 'De Nieuwe Vincent'; a talent project aimed at young Brabant illustrators between the ages of 10 and 14. The initiative will accommodate 60 participants, spread across the Van Gogh locations Zundert, Tilburg, Etten-Leur and Nuenen. The main goal of this program is talent development: during an intensive six-month trajectory, the participating youngsters will be involved in various creative activities, culminating in an exhibition and the title "The New Vincent. The province of North Brabant supports this trajectory.
Past inspiration: Van Gogh's connection to Brabant
'The New Vincent' was initiated by Vincents Tekenlokaal from Tilburg and is already entering its eleventh year. During this period, more than 250 artists from Brabant have been given the opportunity to further develop their talent. The talent program takes its inspiration from the life and work of Vincent van Gogh, who has a connection with all the participating locations. For example, he began his drawing lessons at the Tilburg HBS (now known as the Palace-Council House) at the age of 13, the same place where Vincents Tekenlokaal is now located.
A creative environment: Tilburg and mastery
Tilburg, a city known for its creativity and craftsmanship, provides a fertile environment for this initiative. Here Vincents Tekenlokaal is well rooted and the talent program "The New Vincent" comes into its own.
An exciting program for young illustrators
The program of "The New Vincent" promises an exciting mix of analog and digital drawing classes, master classes and excursions guided by teachers and autonomous artists. Each location provides a unique interpretation of the program within its quality framework. For example, Vincents Tekenlokaal has organized master classes by award-winning artists such as Djenné Fila and Paul van Dongen, and by Marjolein Schalk of the international artist platform Wobby.club. During the course, participants will work on a portfolio, part of which will be on display during a final exhibition. An expert jury will select "The New Vincent 2024" from all participants.
Provincial support: Heritage conservation.
The Province of North Brabant has supported this project for the past four years with the multi-year "Contemporary Culture North Brabant" grant. The grant was awarded because of its high individual impact, as stated in the grant decision. In addition, 'The New Vincent' contributes to the preservation and dissemination of the heritage of Van Gogh, not only through stories and presentations at the four Van Gogh locations, but also by promoting talent development in drawing and painting.
