Van Gogh bicycle route 100 kilometers extended
North Brabant's Van Gogh bicycle route has been completely revamped and expanded. The award-winning themed cycling route has been expanded from 335 to 435 kilometers and from five to ten rounds. To accompany the route, VisitBrabant Routebureau, in cooperation with Van Gogh Brabant , is releasing five new cycling maps and a gift box. An app provides additional experience.
Vincent van Gogh lived and worked most of his life in Brabant. Here he was born, grew up, produced a quarter of his total oeuvre and created his first masterpiece, The Potato Eaters. The Van Gogh bike route, voted European Bike Route of the Year in 2016, takes you past locations in Brabant where he visited or painted. The route follows cycling nodes and is fully signposted. You can opt for a grand tour, but there are also ten shorter bike loops.
Attractive to more cyclists
"We wanted to make the Van Gogh bike route more attractive to more cyclists and open up all 39 Van Gogh Monuments in Brabant," says Frank van den Eijnden, director of Van Gogh Brabant . "I am pleased that there are now shorter rounds that can be cycled in a half-day session. "
The number of Van Gogh laps has doubled from five to 10. The route includes new Van Gogh locations in Breda, Eindhoven, Lieshout, Helmond and Helvoirt. Together with the Van Gogh heritage sites in Zundert, Tilburg, Etten-Leur and Nuenen and Het Noordbrabants Museum in 's-Hertogenbosch, they tell the fascinating story of Van Gogh in Brabant.
5 new cycling maps
Five bicycle maps and a gift box have been released to accompany the updated Van Gogh bicycle route. The cycling maps contain information in Dutch, English and German. Additional experience is provided by the app 'Routes in Brabant'. This shows letter fragments and paintings from Van Gogh and historical photos of the locations you cycle past.
In the footsteps of Vincent
Heleen Huisjes, director VisitBrabant: "With the Van Gogh bicycle route you will not only walk in the footsteps of Vincent van Gogh, it is also a wonderful way to discover our beautiful province and do and experience a lot more. In several places the Brabant landscape still looks the same as Van Gogh captured it on canvas. Unique heritage, with which we put Brabant on the international map as a tourist destination."
Bicycle maps and gift box
The new cycling maps and gift box are available at key Van Gogh heritage sites, VVVs, Tourist Information Points and through VisitBrabant's webshop. For more details on the Van Gogh bike route and the new bike maps, visit visit visitbrabant.nl/vangoghfietsroute and vangoghbrabant.co.uk/bicycleroute.
