Vincent van GoghHuis Presents: I may say Vincent
On Thursday, Aug. 24, Vincent van GoghHuis and artist Thijs Segers presented the more than seven-meter-high artwork Ik mag Vincent zeggen. The work
commissioned by the Van GoghHuis, is installed in the Van GoghTuin and refers to Van Gogh's Sunflowers. As part of the project Vincent's great love, in which the Van GoghHuis zooms in on the connection between Vincent and his native village of Zundert, artist Thijs Segers created this work. One of Van Gogh's most famous works The Sunflowers, to which Segers' work refers, is the inspiration for the project. Thus, sunflower seeds were distributed among Zundert residents and children were challenged to make a creation inspired by the sunflowers of Van Gogh. The larger-than-life artwork in the Van Gogh Garden is the third manifestation of the project which is truly an eye-catcher.
Also, this presentation constitutes preparation for 2024, the year declared by Van Gogh Brabant as the Year of the Sunflower. The reason for this is the major exhibition that the National Gallery in London is organizing in that year around Van Gogh's Sunflowers. This is because it will be 100 years since Jo van Gogh-Bonger, wife of Theo Van Gogh, sold The Sunflowers of Van Gogh to National Gallery. This helped make Vincent Van Gogh a world-famous artist. Now, almost a hundred years later, we were preparing for the year of the Sunflower in which you will see
can expect major exhibitions, projects and displays in various locations at Brabant. Among other things, that year Segers' artwork will be placed in the hall of the Provinciehuis in 's-Hertogenbosch.
