New Van Gogh Hall in Het Noordbrabants Museum

The only place in Brabant to see Van Gogh's work

Het Noordbrabants Museum is the only place in Brabant where works by Van Gogh can be admired. Following the first acquisition in 1984 and a gradually increasing number of loans from fellow museums and private individuals, the museum has been able to significantly strengthen its collection over the past four years. Because of the growing Van Gogh collection and the importance of Van Gogh for North Brabant, it was decided to now dedicate an entire room to the artist. Visitors can thus discover the background to his Brabant work.

Vincent's Brabant period

The new presentation examines Van Gogh's development as a painter and highlights the main themes of his Brabant period: the rural setting, peasant life and still life. Five of the twelve works on display are owned by Het Noordbrabants Museum. In addition, loans are shown from the collections of Van Gogh Museum, National Cultural Heritage Agency, Rijksmuseum, Central Museum and private individuals. In the coming years, ever-changing works will be displayed in the gallery, allowing visitors to get to know Van Gogh better.

From Brabant 'painter's little boy' to global phenomenon

The presentation will, of course, pay ample attention to Van Gogh's life. Vincent lived half of his life in Brabant and was formed here. A timeline runs like a thread through the presentation and gives a good picture of Vincent's life with personal documents, photographs and animated fragments of letters. Objects painted by Van Gogh, such as baskets, spades and bonnets, give a picture of everyday life. It also shows how Van Gogh grew from a Brabant "painter's little girl" into a worldwide phenomenon.
